After 10 Years of Selective breeding the Seedless lemon is a Reality
Queensland Citrus farmer Craig Pressler has finally got his seedless "Eureka" lemon to the market after 10 years of selective breeding
The fruit has been grown under licence at farms in the Gayndah and Mundubbera areas in South East Queensland.
Members of the restaurant and catering trades eagerly sought the prized fruit at its launch at the Brisbane markets, although the citrus will not be available to the public until mid 2007.
Unfortunately the fruit will not be cheap, with a price of perhaps double that of normal lemons being predicted.
The Queensland farmers are in competition with the South Africans who have also recently developed a seedless lemon, with the lucrative European market seen as the ultimate prize
